Why dogs shed ?

Dogs shed a lot, that's a reality.

If you have a dog you are already used to having his hair on your clothes or maybe even floating on the kitchen table.

All dogs shed, but some more than others, especially in spring and autumn.

Dogs with long curly hair shed more than other kinds of breeds.


So, why dogs shed?

Shedding is dogs' natural loss of hair that allows the growing of the new coat.
For some breeds shedding is only a seasonal process, twice a year. Other breeds, as the Dalmatians, shed all the time, all year long.

If you are looking for a dog that sheds as little as possible, here are some breeds for you: Affenpinscher, Cairn Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Irish Water Spaniel, Shar-Pei, Basenji, or even Lhasa Apso.

How can we help in reducing shedding?

It is impossible to avoid dogs' hair loss, but we can help reducing the shedding by brushing the dogs every day and bathing the dog twice a month. If you have a dog with long coat you can try to vacuum his hair, some dogs like it.
